0-10: the foundation

Listen to each number, read the practical guide, and repeat after the audio. When Danish has a sound with no perfect Romanian equivalent, the lesson explains the difference.

From 11 to 20, several Danish forms sound different from what a beginner may expect from the spelling. Read the simple guide, listen, and repeat.

STEP 3 · PRONUNCIATION

How to use the School sound guide

The guide is written simply for a Romanian ear and does not use a phonetic alphabet. It gives a quick way into the sound, while the Danish recording remains the model to copy.

The rule is simple: read the guide, notice the lip position where it is explained, listen to the Danish recording, then repeat after the voice.

Y = i with rounded lips

In words such as syv and tyve, start from an i sound but round your lips toward u. SIU and TIUVE are Romanian listening helpers; the Danish recording shows the exact sound.

VOCE

Ø = e with rounded lips

The Danish ø sound is not an ordinary Romanian o. Start from an e sound and round your lips, then check immediately against the audio.

-TĂN

The endings are short

Several numbers from 13 to 19 have a short, relaxed ending. That is why the Romanian guide uses forms such as “-TĂN”. Do not give the ending its own stress.

Y and Ø need rounded lips

Syv, sytten, and tyve do not have a perfect Romanian sound equivalent. Use SIU, SIU-TĂN, and TIUVE as a starting point, then copy the lip position and the Danish voice.
